Speech and Language Pathology
Helping your child communicate through the lens of joy.
As a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist, I offer traditional direct treatment for all ages, with specialties in: receptive and expressive delays, disorders and/or atypical development, particularly during infanthood and early childhood. Additional specialities include feeding, autism, apraxia, articulation, and social communication integration.
The ultimate goal of speech and language pathology is to develop strategies that fit a child’s learning style. As a speech and language pathologist, I set up situations that create opportunities to organically practice speech and language skills, for a more balanced learning process. Children learn best while having fun and being joyful, so that’s the method I use most. When I work with a child who shows that even playtime is work, I know I have more background work to do than just focusing on talking or pronunciation. When a child is not joyful, something’s up. I use play to gain insight into the child’s intentions, determine where the disconnect between the brain and speaking occurs and can morph my strategies as we interact. This is because children are always learning. What they learn is facilitated by us setting him up to succeed, rather than learning that consistent attempts are met with failure. So if not addressed, children are often practicing failure, which leads to frustration and giving up.
You can set up your child to succeed by the trusting relationship you have created. I can see them thriving even if they’re not talking.
My role is to expand your awareness and provide a platform for you to have child-specific tools to support your child’s development.
How it Works
The process starts with a 30 min. free phone consultation during which time we will review your concerns for yourself or your child and review the required steps to initiate traditional direct services.
These steps include and are not limited to:
Obtaining a written prescription from the child’s medical doctor for a speech therapist to evaluate and treat.
Contacting your medical insurance provider to determine coverage and benefits for speech therapy (an inclusive term covering communication issues) and/or swallowing therapy (an inclusive term for oral functioning related to the eating/feeding process).
Once all required and pertinent information is received, you can schedule the evaluation. Once that happens we will discuss direct treatment of the concern as approved by the M.D. and medical benefits.
Private pay clients, who do not access medical benefits, are also welcome.
